Who proposed that magnetic field is present in the current carrying wire?

Henry Oersted proposed this in 1830.

Henry Oersted discovered that when a compass is kept near a current carrying wire, its needle is deflected.
Therefore he proposed that a current carrying wire should produce a magnetic field..
