Who proposed the two kingdom clasification and what was the criteria of that clasification of two kindoms of life?

Carl Linnaeus proposed this theory of the old two kingdom classification.
However, this system didn't work because there were exceptions like bacteria which is neither plant nor animal and euglena which displayed mixed characteristics
