Who proved that earth isn't flat in the past times?

Christopher Columbus proved that earth isn't flat by circumnavigating the whole surface of earth. He started from a place and reached the same place after travelling the whole surface of earth and thus proved that the earth is not flat; the earth is actually spherical ( oblate spheroid / geoid ).
