In 1637, a French scientist Rene Descartes put forth the Corpuscular theory of light. It was further elaborated by Sir Issac Newton in 1672. According to this theory, light is composed of particles (corpuscles) which move in straight line from the source at a fixed speed. These particles are now referred as photons.
