Dadabhai Naoroji
- Dadabhai Naoroji expressed glowing optimism in 1892, when he was elected as the first Indian to the British House of Commons, about how Parliament could fulfil India's numerous political needs. But by 1895, when he failed to win reelection, he was no longer so upbeat.
- His increasingly radicalised political speech did a good job of capturing this.
- Naoroji publicly endorsed Indian self-government at the start of the 20th century, putting all other elements of the nationalist programme behind this one demand.
- He said that only self-government could stop the flow of money by getting rid of a civil service that was controlled by Europeans and installing a representative, accountable government that would look out for Indian interests rather than the British.
Hence, Dadabhai Naoroji said that self government is the only remedy for India's woes and wrong.
