my friends figured out the perfect way to guilt me into doing just about anything. They use a three-word statement to immediately put me on edge: “God, you’re selfish.” That’s all it takes to change my mind if I opt out of happy hour or attempt to commit any other socially undesirable offense. The accusation of selfishness, for some reason, stings and immediately prompts me to do whatever necessary to prove I’m not intrinsically-wired to think solely of myself.
Turns out, research suggests very few of us are naturally selfish.
