for wanting to teach a lesson to Antonio , he signed a bond with Antonio that he will take a pound of flesh from Antonio's body if he (Antonio)
do not return his 3000 ducats which was taken by Antonio in the sake of his friend Bassanio who wanted to go to Belmont and marry Portia.
As Antonio was a merchant he had to depend on ships for his money. His ships didn't return, so he cannot give the money to Shylock. According to the terms of agreement , Shylock didn't listened to anyone and therefore wanted to seek Antonio's life.
