The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in fair labour standard act. It was set 0n 1948 minimum wage act.Arguments in favour of a minimum wage mostly hang on the idea that firms have a responsibility to ensure that their workers earn enough to live on. If a firm can't pay its workers enough to live on, then it isn't a viable business, because it is dependent on wage subsidies.
Employers generally have to pay workers the highest minimum wage prescribed by federal, state, and local law. Since July 24, 2009, the federal government has mandated a nationwide minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
