Associative property = No matter how we group the numbers the final value is the same 

For ex. = a + ( b + c) = (a + b) + c ← Addition= a × ( b × c)  = ( a × b ) × c ← Multiplication

This property is there in Addition and multiplication only.

It is absent in subtraction and division 

For ex.= a - ( b - c ) ≠ (a - b) - c ← Subtraction 

= a ÷ (b ÷ c)  ≠ (a ÷ b) ÷ c  Division

1) 5, 4, 2 

a = 5 

b = 4 

c = 2 

1) a + ( b + c) = (a + b) + c

⇒ 5 + ( 4 + 2) =  ( 5 + 4 ) + 2

 

⇒ 5 + 6 = 9 + 2

a = 0

b = 8
