Maniram was arrested in Calcutta and kept in Alipur jail before shifting to Jorhat. His letters to Kandarpeswar was intercepted by the Special Commissioner Captain Charles Holroyd, who judged the trial. On 26 February 1858, he along with Piyali Barua were hanged publicly at the Jorhat jail.
