Ghiyas ud Din Balban, the slave king of Delhi Sultanate wanted people to do Sijda or prostration in his court. He started a strong kingship and introduced the Iranian court practices of Sijda and Paibos (kissing the feet of Sulatn) as a mark of respect to the king in court. It was introduced to suppress the internal rebels.

He was the heir of last Shamsi Sultan Nasir ud-Din. Balban thought that Sultan was the 'shadow of God' and also introduced a rigorous discipline for his court. He made a large army which had the soldiers of all castes.
