Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, when was just 22 years old, he had gone to meet Gulzar with a copy in hand of Devdas and requested the poet to write a script for it.Although Gulzar did not know Mehra he just walked up to him and keeping the book on his table said, that he wants Gulzar to write this film for him.Gulzar, the celebrated Indian lyricist, has been chosen recently for receiving the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. He has also been honored by many other great honors which include the great Padma Bhushan and Grammy Award.
