Explanation:

There is a four-fold purpose of life. It goes as dharma-artha-kama-moksha are the four folds of the purpose of human life.

No one asks question about artha-kama pair. It is universally accepted as gaining wealth and fulfilling desires are the general goals of life.

All questions arise on the first one dharma and the last one moksha.

Is it necessary to live the life righteously? Why not just live as one wishes? Just gain all wealth and enjoy everything in the life. Unfortunately the world will not allow such a thing. In the forests where there is no civilization, the powerful wins. But every being has its own power to protect itself.

With human civilization, we have a fundamental nature of helping others without seeking anything in return. We don’t exploit the week. We support the weaker sections. That is called dharma. It is the fundamental goal of human life.

Without harming the dharma, one should seek wealth and desire fulfillment. There is no problem with that kind of life. So, first thing to be achieved is righteousness. i.e., dharma.

Next question arises, Why is it not sufficient to live righteously? Righteous action accrues virtue. Virtue leads an individual to higher realms up to swarga or heaven. But once the fruits of righteous actions will come to an end and again the being comes to earthly existence again. Again the being gets into good and bad actions, fulfillment of desires etc., and this goes in an unending cycle. This cycle is technically called a samsara.

The individual should free own self from this samsara or repeated births and deaths. That is possible only by moksha. And, moksha is highest goal of life that gives transcendental freedom by the means of deep wisdom of existence, consciousness and bliss known as sat-chit-Ananda.

So, it is very much necessary for all beings to seek moksha, especially to human beings with the wonderful intelligence they have!
