Ajatshatru was the son and successor of Bimbisara, the founder of Haryanaka dynasty of Magadha.
Ajatshatru played an important role in the expansion and rise of Magadha as a strong empire. He fought against the king of Vaijji and defeated the king of Kosala. He conquered the republic of Vaishali and also occupied Kashi and other small kingdoms to his empire. In this way Magadha under Ajatshatru became the most powerful empire at that time.
