Ali bux was the maternal uncle of Bismillah Khan and may be regarded as his mentor and trainer. He was a great shehnai player and was employed to play the shehnai in the Vishnu temple of Banaras. At a very young age, Bismillah Khan started a accompanying him and get lessons in playing shehnai from him.
