in the story "a thief's story" the narrator who took up the name of hari singh to be in front of the police and his future employers anil was a person who offered him a job but anil said he did not have money but he could feed Hari . later on the story hari makes food but it was so terrible that he feed the dogs with that but hari kept on smiling. one day anil had promised he would teach hari about sentences hari knew once he was an educated he could achieve anything, Hari would earn some money from the grocceries anil knew it but he did not mind it. anil made his money by fits and starts one day anil recieved his salary and kept it under his bed, in the night hari decided to steal from anil he ran to the train station he was counting the money which he had stolen he could live like an arab for one week he said it started raining .within the excitment to steal hari forgot about sentence that anil had promised to teach hari returned home to anil and put back the money . next day hari was woken by anil , anil had prepared tea for him he told that he would pay him anil had noticed the wet money and he smiled.
