Mirza Abu Zafar Sirajuddin Muhammad Bahadur Shah Zafar (24 October 1775 – 7 November 1862) was the last Mughal emperor. He was the second son of and became the successor to his father, Akbar II, upon his death on 28 September 1837.

Reasons by which disrespect shown to bahadur shah zafar during british rule:
In 1849 lord Dalhousie announced that successors of Bahadur Shah Zafar would not be permitted to use the red ford as their palace they were required to shift to a place near the qutub minar.
In 1856 lord canning announced that after the death of Bahadur Shah, his successors would not be allowed to use the Imperial titles with their names and would be known as mere princes.
