In 1993, following amendments are done that shifted Belgium from a united to federal form of government :

# Constitution prescribes that the number of Dutch and French speaking people shall be equal in the central government .

# Many powers of the center government have been given to state government of the two regions of the country.

# Brussels has a separate government in which both the communities have equal representation.

# Apart from the center and state government, there is a third government called 'community government's.
