When the lawyer told Bill about the purpose of his visit to New Mullion, Bill came up with his plan to befool the lawyer . Bill understood that the lawyer did not known him. So he openly took the lawyer all over hack driver was the village in search of himself . While they were in search of Lutkins , the hack driver was the one who did all the talking and the lawyer remained a mere listener .The lawyer was so impressed by the hack driver to control the situation and thus he remained ignorant of what was actually taking place of the hack driver and was befooled by him.
