Answer :

This question is based on the short story 'The Bond Of Love' by Kenneth Anderson.

Bruno was a baby sloth bear who was the author's pet.

One day the narrator was passing through the sugarcane fields near Mysore along with his friends. They came across some people driving away wild pigs from their fields by shooting at them. Suddenly, a female sloth bear came out of the fields and one of the narrator's companions panicked and shot it.

The narrator and his companions were watching the dead animal when they noticed the black fur on its back leave the body and take a separate shape. It turned out to be a baby bear, who started making a pitiful noise on seeing its dead parent lying lifeless on the ground. The author took pity on this baby bear and brought it home to his wife.
