►The Gupta inscriptions mention Chandragupta ll as Samudragupta’s successor. He took the title of Vikramaditya and extended the limits of the empire by marriage alliances and conquests.
By the end of his reign his empire extended to western, northwestern and eastern India. Chandragupta ll is also known for his patronage of men of letters. Kalidasa, the Sanskrit poet, was a member of his court.
