Chuck and Hopper are not two separate people, it's all about one person named Chuck Hopper. He suffered from an accident, which paralysed his left side. It was his dog Duke who then helped him recover. he would continue to encourage Chuck to move, by poking him at his shoulders, or simply pushing him. When Chuck got confidence, he took his first steps after the accident with the help of Duke. Duke helped him to recover from the accident. Chuck could join his regular job, thanks to Duke. In the sad and unfortunate ending of the story, Duke also suffered from a car accident, and died.
