According to Hindu mythology, Puranaas, Daksh was a prajapati  that is  a leader of people.  Daksh was a man created by Lord Brahma to populate Earth with people, in the beginning of creation.  So he is a son of Brahma.  He was like a king, brahmin ..who ruled people according to the principles,  law and discipline written by Manu.

He had 27 or 28 daughters. Most of them became stars in the sky.  Most known is Parvati who became the wife of Lord Shiva.   Daksh was the father in law of Shiva the God.
