Faxian (337 – c. 422) was a Chinese Buddhist monk and translator who traveled by foot from China to India, The Chinese traveller Fa-hien, visited India at the time of Chandragupta-II (Vikramaditya). He was deeply impressed by the ideal and mild administration affected by Buddhism, economic prosperity of Pataliputra and Magadha, simplicity of the people.
