Fa-hien was the Buddhist pilgrim fro China who visited India during the rule of Chadergupta II of Gupta dynasty.

Though he visited for religious purposes and recorded about the same in detail but we can deduce some information from his account Si-Yu-Ki about other aspects of India as well.

Political and economic condition was good. Administration of Guptas was benevolent. He says, Buddhism and Hinduism were most popular religions and there was much tolerance on religious matters. The social condition was also good and public morality was high. The people were vegetarian and alcohol was avoided.
