He was prime minister of India for two short time periods after the deaths of Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Gulzarilal Nanda was awarded Bharat Ratna in 1997. He works as research scholar on labour problems and he became a professor of economics. He was married with Lakshmi with whom he had two sons and one daughter.
