✯Harichand Thakur: Harichand Thakur, who belonged to a Vaishnava family of Gopalganj in Faridpur. eastern Bengal, founded the Matua sect. This sect protested against caste hierarchy and Brahman domination, and challenged the sacred texts which supported these. The sect also regarded men and women as equals. Most of the members of the sect were low-caste peasants.
✯Guru Ghasidas :In Chhattisgarh, Guru Ghasidas worked among untouchable leatherworkers called Chamars. He founded the Satnampanth way of life, which rejected Hindu gods and goddesses, Hindu rituals and Brahman domination. His followers were called Satnamis, and they believed in a formless god.
