Haresena, was a government minister, panegyrist and a Sanskrit minstrel. He was the early pen of Kavya poetry. According to Arthur Berriedale Keith “ Haresena’s runes correspond both prose and verse, indeed though it bears explicitly the title kavya. The structure of the lyric is analogous to the delineation of the lords espoused in Subandha and Bana like prose and love.
Harisena had great interest in playing the lute along with his friend Samudragupta.His notorious lyric prashasti was inscribed in Allahabad pillar and one of his given eulogies was written as paean.
Harisena was a successor of Devasena, his father.
