- He gave a description of India during the reign of king Harsha in his book 'Si-yu-ki'.
- He visited the Nalanda university in 637 and 642 BC and studied under the guidance of Shilabhadra.
- Before him Chinese monk Fa Hien had travelled to India in search of scriptures.
- He described the city life of India and that the houses were constructed of wood, bricks and dung. The city streets were dirty and circular. May new cities had grown up while the old cities were in ruins. He mentions that Prayag was and important city and Patliputra was replaced by Kannauj. Nalanda and Valabhi were the centres of Buddhist learning.
