Jnanadanamdini Devi was renowned for her innovations in Bengali women's dress reform and modernisation. She was married to Satyendranath Tagore, the first Indian to become a member of the Indian Civil Sevice in 1864. She adopted the Parsi Style of wearing the sari printed to the left shoulder with a brooch, and worn with a blouse and shoes. This style was quickly adopted by Brahmo Samaji women and known as the Brahmi ka sari.
