Indra was mainly worshipped in the Rig Vedic period

Explanation:

Indra according to the  Vedas is the “king of Svarga” heaven and the Devas. According to mythology he was known as “the god of the heavens, lightning, thunder, storms, rains, river flows, and war”. Indra is the most worshipped god in the “Rigveda”.  He is generally known to have supreme powers, and for killing Vritra who was supposed to be very evil. He had obstructed the prosperity and happiness of the human. After destroying Vritra and his forces there was a lot of sunshine and rain for the people. Later on his level of importance was reduced during the “post-Vedic Indian literature” since he was getting into trouble due to his wrong ways.
