Mendel is called the father of genetics.

He conducted his experiments on pea plants for 12 yrs.
Gregor Mendel, through his work on pea plants, discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance. He deduced that genes come in pairs and are inherited as distinct units, one from each parent. Mendel  tracked the segregation of parental genes and their appearance in the offspring as dominant or recessive traits

Gregor Johann Mendel is called the "father of genetics "

his contributions of the study of inheritance  paved the way for our basic understanding of how traits are inherited from one generation to the next .Mendel did much of his work with easily obtained local organisms , especially garden peas .  he also did genetic work with other plants and honey bees
