Megasthenes was an ancient Greek historian, diplomat and Indian ethnographer and explorer in the Hellenistic period.
He described India in his book Indika, which is now lost, but has been partially reconstructed from the writings of the later authors.

Megasthenes was a Greek traveller and geographer who was sent by King Selucos Nicator during the 4th century BC in Chandragupta Maurya's court where he stayed as a Greek historian and ambassador for five years.
The book he wrote is called Indika (also spelt as Indica.)
