Adéleine Slade, known as Mira Behn left her house in England to serve with the leader of the Indian Independence Movement, Mohandas Gandhi. She spent her life developing people and promoting the principles of Gandhi. She was the sir Edmond Slade's aunt, the British Rear Admiral.

• Mira Behn was Gandhi's acquaintance and friend. The ideals, philosophy and working methods of Gandhiji impressed her greatly. Through support of women's equality and freedoms, Mira Behn has campaigned against caste discrimination. Her emphasis was on agriculture, cottage, industry and education growth.
• Mira Behn was working on environmental protection. She wanted to protect the environment and the economy. She actively opposed the use of modem technology and science. In 1949, Mira Behn wrote that "through science and machinery he (mankind) may be earning huge profits for a while, but eventually, desolation will come.
• Second-five year plan focused on science and technology. It was opposed by Mira. She was of the opinion that science and technology may give enormous returns but eventually would lead to despair as these developments would be undertaken at nature’s cost. She was of the opinion that policies must framed considering the nature’s law and the nature’s balance must not be disturbed
