miss mebbin was a paid companion of Mrs.packletide.No, she was not really devoted to Mrs. packletide .During tiger shooting , she always tried to make understood Mrs packletide that she should not give extra money to the villagers in case the tiger doesn't hurt goat. Bt when she saw that Mrs packletide has shoot the goat instead of tiger and the tiger died due to heart failure then miss mebbin starts blackmailing mrs. packletide that the truth might be revealed if she would managed her to buy a weekend cottage for her.
