The narrator described Montmorency to have a very noble expression that would bring old gentlemen and ladies to tears .  He felt that Montmorency would be a very defenceless dog when it came to the cruel and harsh world , so , he felt that Montmorency would die soon . But after paying for the chicks and a cat which Montmorency had kiled , the narrator changed his opinion about the dog .
