Who was Mr. Oliver? Treasure trove a face in the dark lesson
Answers
A Face in the Dark by Ruskin Bond sets the theme of perception, control, and fear. Narrated in the third person, Mr. Oliver was a school teacher. He went 3 miles away from Shimla to teach in a school. Being a bachelor he stayed alone and every evening walked down through pine forest to the Shimla bazaar. He never believed in ghost or imaginary things and was a courageous man. Therefore, while he walked down through the pine forest he never felt any kind of fear. No matter how the weather was he walked courageously through the forest.
One day while he was walking down the forest he saw a boy in school cap who was sitting on a rock. He was amazed to see the boy is sitting alone as the boys were forbidden to move out of the hostel in the evening. After a moment some strange thing happens and it frightens him to run away from the place. He bumps into a watchman while running and watchman resembles the boy whom Oliver met earlier being featureless.
