Mrs Dorling was the friend/ long time acquaintance of the narrator's mother.She live at 46, Marconi Street Holland.That story wash during the second world war when Germany invaded Holland. The Hotel visited that place to meet Mrs Dorling to take her ( her mother's ) possessions. The author was and welcome at Mrs Dorling place.

Mrs. Dorling is that individual who takes away all of narrator mother's belongings for safekeeping before the war strikes out. She is an impolite and a very selfish woman who doesn't recognize the narrator when the narrator comes for retrieving the things given to her before the war.
