Mu'iz ad-Din Muhammad Ghori was Sultan of the Ghurid Empire along with his brother Ghiyath ad-Din Muhammad from 1173 to 1202 and as the sole ruler from 1202 to 1206. He was also known as Muhammad of Ghor.

Muhammad Ghori was an ambitious ruler . He wanted to expand his empire . He decided to invaid India , not just for its wealth but also built an empire . In 1175 , Muhammad Ghori conquered Multan . In 1178 , he received a temporary setback when he was defeated by the ruler of Gujarat . Muhammad soon relized that Punjab could be a good base for further conquests . In 1190 , he conquered Punjab . The Rajput ruler of the neighbouring kingdom of Delhi and Ajmer , Prithviraj Chauhan , pripared to face him . In 1190 , the armies of Muhammad Ghori and Prithviraj Chauhan clased at tarain . Muhammad Ghori was decisively defeated . But in the second battle of tarain Muhammad Ghori defeated Prithviraj Chauhan.
