Phocas (r. 602-610 CE) was a Byzantine emperor who came to power after leading a rebellion against his predecessor, Maurice. After declaring himself emperor, he began a brutal purge of the Byzantine elite, whom he deeply mistrusted. His constant paranoia and willingness to use violence without hesitation against his own people earned him the moniker of 'Tyrant'. After eight years he was deposed for his feckless and disastrous rule.

here's the answer

Phocas (Latin: Flavius Phocas Augustus; Greek: Φωκᾶς, Phokas; – 5 October 610) was Byzantine Emperor from 602 to 610. The early life of Phocas is largely unknown, but he rose to prominence in 602, as a leader in the revolt against Emperor Maurice.
