Iltutmish had many sons but considered none capable enough to be his successor. So , he decided to make his daughter , Raziya , the Sultan of Delhi . The nobles were unhappy with this choice . After the death of Iltutmish, the nobles placed Rukh - nud - din Firoz Shah , a son of Ittusmish on the throne . Rukh - nud - din proved to be an incapable ruler . Raziya , with the support of the people of the city, became the ruler .

Raziya was a brave and courageous lady. She always dress like men, rode the horse and held durbars . She bought many reforms in the state. In spite of all her qualities. Her nobles did not like the idea of being ruled by a women. That , is why she was killled in a revolt in 1240 .
