Franklin D.Roosevelt was the American President at that time. At the urging colleague , Einstein wrote letter to the American president , Franklin D.Roosevelt , on 2nd August 1939, in which he wanted to convey about the Extent of destruction by using a single type of this atomic bomb. He wrote "a single bomb of this type... exploded in a port might very well destroy the whole port together with some of the surrounding territory."

Einstein letter have an effect but it was a bad effect. :)
