Who was Salvador Allende? what did he do for the poor and the workers of his history?

Salvador Allende became Chile's first socialist president in 1970 before committing suicide during a 1973 military coup.
he helped implement such social reforms as higher pensions, a free school lunch program and safety laws for factory workers.

Salvadore allende(1908-1973) was the founder leader of the socialist party of Chile,a country of south America. He became the first Marxist president of Chile.The steps taken by him to help the poor were:
(i) educational system was refromed.
(ii)free milk was distributed to children.
(iii)land was redistributed and given to landless peasants.
