⇒He was professionally a physician but later become Marxist politician and was the first Marxist to be democratically elected the president of a Latin  American country.

→In 1970s, he announced many  reformist policies to restructure the Chilean economy.

→He rebuilt the whole education system of Chile and provided scholarships to more than 3000 Mapuches ( group of indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile) children.

→He provided free grains to needy people and also provided free milk nursing mothers and school going children.

→He announced the hike of 40% in the wages of local workers.

→He also abolished taxes on basic daily needs.

→He launched campaign against illiteracy provided educational opportunities for workers.
