• He was the son of Chandragupta - I
• We get the detailed information of Samudragupta's military campaign from Allahbad pillar inscription.

Military Campaign of Samudragupta :
• The military campaign of Samudragupta is clearly mentioned in Allahabad Inscription.
• According to Allahabad Inscription, the military campaign of Samudragupta is divided into three phases.
• First one was towards North Indian rulers. As, most of the rulers were defeated by Samudragupta. The Indo - Gangetic Plain cams under Samudragupta.
• In second phase, he moved towards South India. This is also called as Dakshinapath. It is said that 12 south Indian rulers were defeated by him.
• In third phase, Samudragupta defeated the remaining rulers of North India who were from Nag dynasty.
• After all this campaign, Samudragupta printed golden coins and performed Ashvameda Yaga as a restorer of Ashvameda.
