Well actually Akbar was a VERY secular king. He wasnt a “nice” king as some bollywood films may make you believe, as he could be cruel enough to send people to the dungeons just if his food had too much spice.
But he knew how to build a muslim empire in a country like India. He broke down the religous barriers between his various subjects by embracing all religions in India with open arms.
A good example of this is the jains in Gujrat. Akbar built temples for them and also removed jizya tax from jain pilgrimage places like palitana.
