      Shahid Ali was a multifaceted personality. He was born in Srinagar, he studied in Delhi and later worked in various colleges and universities in America. He was a brilliant teacher. He loved good poetry, music, clothes and food. He always thought about Kashmir and also wrote about it. He did not lose courage in the face of misfortune. Even though he had cancer he refused to use the wheelchair in the hospital.

      He made the writer, Amitav Ghosh promise that he would write something for him when he passed away. The writer promised to do so and started keeping a record of the conversations and meetings he had with Shahid.
