who was stalin and why is known as one of the worst dictators of all time?
Answers
Stalin overall is infamous for the massive loss of life he caused, around the same level as Mao (not in raw numbers but in sheer size compared to basically any one person). Like Mao, much of this loss of life tied into collectivization of agriculture and the ensuing famines. Probably the best known example is the huge loss of life in the Ukraine in the 1930s. He also caused the death of millions of troops and civilians during WWII, due to many poor decision on his part and his purges before the war, which deprived the military of some of its finest senior leadership. That being said, holding together the Soviet war effort for so long was an accomplishment - many other men would not be up to the task. However, the manner in which he did so contributes to his negative legacy. His massive cult of personality also ties into this.
