The answer is option (D) - Edwin James.

The 'Great American Desert' in Oklahoma was coined by Edwin James while he was a part of the Long Bell Expedition.

Edwin James was led by Major Long who divided his team into two when they reached the Arkansas river.

One team was headed by Captain John R.Bell with zoologist Thomas Say to explore the east of Arkansas. Another team was led by Major Long with botanist Edwin James and they headed to the western tip of Oklahoma.

Most part of Oklahoma was a waterless desert and Edwin James coined the plains of Oklahoma as the "Great American Desert".
