Yes Manohar Parrikar was earlier defence minister but the twist is that, Manohar Parrikar was later made as CM of Goa. After that Arun Jaitley was given the department both of finance and defence. After few months, Arun Jaitley was given back the finance department and Nirmala Seetaraman was made the Defence minister.

The previous defence minister of India before Mrs. Nirmala Sitaraman was Shri Manohar Parikar.
But till then the Nirmala Sitaraman was being chosen Arun Jaitly, Our Finance minister took that department.
